Georgia Life Alliance Corrects False Narrative - Camden Co. Woman NOT Being Charged Under GA’s LIFE Act

ATLANTA — Recent media reports about the death of a newborn baby in Camden County have suggested that Georgia’s LIFE Act is responsible for the charges filed against her mother, Alexia Moore.

As the lead group behind the passage of the LIFE Act, Georgia Life Alliance can unequivocally state that this claim is false.

The evidence available shows the newborn’s death was the result of respiratory distress caused by illegally-obtained oxycodone (a schedule II drug) taken by her mother shortly before giving birth - the possession of which is a felony. The baby’s death occurring during the commission of a felony necessitates a murder charge under Georgia law.

The death of this innocent newborn child is a tragic, deeply troubling, and criminal act. According to the arrest warrant, the baby was born alive and fought for her life for more than an hour before tragically dying.

“Ms. Moore is not being charged with crimes under Georgia’s LIFE Act. This innocent baby girl was born alive and under Georgia law, her death is being investigated and prosecuted like any other,” said Georgia Life Alliance’s Executive Director, Elizabeth Edmonds.

Efforts to mischaracterize this case as an attack on women or as a consequence of pro-life laws are intentionally misleading and purposefully serve to create further fear and confusion. This is about the death of a child who was born alive and the application of laws that have existed for decades.

Georgia law does not criminalize miscarriage or pregnancy outcomes, and this case should not be mischaracterized as such.

“What this case highlights is the danger posed by illegal online abortion pill distributors operating outside the medical system,” said Edmonds. “These abortion profiteers prey on women’s fear and desperation, then ship powerful drugs through the mail into states without physician oversight - leading to death and tragedy, with no accountability.”

Georgia Life Alliance deeply grieves the loss of this child and remains committed to advancing a culture where both women and their children are supported, valued, and protected under law.

Georgia Life Alliance is the largest pro-life group in the state and the only state affiliate to National Right to Life.
