PurposeList Item 1
The Henry Hyde Legislative Fellowship is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for young and aspiring Georgians who want to make an impact on our state through public policy to learn the legislative process, meet leading pro-life lawmakers, experience the Committee process, and participate in lobbying efforts with the largest pro-life organization in the state of Georgia.
Fellows will accompany the GLA Legislative Team during legislative session days and non-session days from mid-January through late-March/early-April to assist us in our efforts to pass legislation that builds a culture of life.

Responsibilities and DutiesList Item 2
- Learn how to read and analyze bills and amendments
- Learn the strategies on how a bill is passed and/or defeated
- Learn to navigate and participate in the Committee process
- Work with leaders, attorneys, and lawmakers on pro-life legislation
- Watch floor proceedings
- Help our Legislative Team prepare and attend as they testify on bills
- Attend meetings with Elected Officials and their staff
- Assist in reviewing and/or researching bills, amendments, and Committee schedules
- Follow-up on status of bills as they progress through the legislative process.
- Help plan and execute our annual Pro-Life Lobby Day at the Capitol.
- Work with and instruct volunteers who come to the Capitol as Citizen Lobbyists.

Time CommitmentList Item 3
- The Fellowship may begin the first week of January.
- Fellows should be present at the State Capitol whenever the Legislature is in session, 3-5 days per week, and for pertinent meetings and Committee hearings when the Legislature is not in session.
- Fellows will work through the end of the Legislative Session, which will end in late March or early April.

ExpensesList Item 4
There is no cost to the Fellowship program, but Fellows will incur expenses for gas and parking. Meals while at the Capitol will be covered by GLA.

Fellowship Requirements
- At least 16 years of age at the time of the internship;
- Fellows must have a reliable means of transportation to and from the Capitol each day of the Fellowship;
- This is a Pro-Life Fellowship program, and Fellows must have a strong pro-life position and commitment to upholding GLA’s mission and vision;
- Provide a cover letter of the prospective Fellow’s personal position on the pro-life issue and why they want to be a GLA Legislative Fellow;
- Communications with legislators, staff, other lobbyists, and pro-life leaders at times will be confidential and Fellows will sign a Nondisclosure Agreement to enforce that confidentiality;
- Fellows must be properly dressed for lobbying [men must wear a jacket, tie, and dress shoes at the State Capitol; women must wear a dress; or blouse/sweater and skirt; or dress pants and blouse] all dress for men and women must be modest in attire;
- Fellows must be respectful of all parties they come in contact with, whether legislators, staff, lobbyists or the public, including those of opposing views;
- Fellows must be honest in their dealings with those they talk to. Our word is our bond before legislators, staff, and other lobbyists.
