Keeping our finger on the pulse of the pro-life movement in Georgia
.
Fall is here.
The kids are back to school. Football is back. Elections are heating up. And across Georgia, the pro-life movement is preparing itself for another busy season.
As summer winds down, there’s a lot happening across Georgia for pro-lifers - and a lot of ways to get involved.
Here’s what’s been on our radar as we wrap up September and head into October:

FROM THE GOLD DOME TO THE COMMUNITY
The gavel may be quiet at the Capitol right now, but the work of protecting life doesn’t stop when the legislative session ends - it shifts to making those policies become real resources for women, families, and children.
Just last month, we celebrated yet another powerful example of what pro-life policy looks like when God moves it from the pages of a bill into the real world:
⛑️ Georgia’s first Safe Haven Baby Box is now up and operational
!
This is why legislation and our advocacy under the Gold Dome matters so much. A single vote at the Capitol, one piece of legislation, a Governor committed to making Georgia a Sanctuary State for LIFE - they become tangible options, real help, and answers to prayers for a mother in need … and protection for a child in danger.

Many of us remember the story of Baby India
, the baby girl who was found in Forsyth County mere hours after being born - abandoned in the woods, wrapped in plastic bags. Her story made national headlines and sparked a larger conversation in the pro-life movement - one that finally began to fully consider the extreme and dire circumstances some pregnant and new mothers face. That was in 2019. Since then, Georgia Life Alliance has been working
alongside lawmakers, grassroots advocates, and even national organizations to pass this legislation expanding Georgia’s Safe Haven Law - ensuring mothers in crisis know they have a safe place for the anonymous surrender of a newborn baby.

Georgia’s first Safe Haven Baby Box
has been installed at Fire Station 6 in Henry County, providing mothers facing crisis with a safe, anonymous option to safely surrender a newborn. Supporters came together for the ribbon cutting ceremony and to bless the space on August 28th. This came after 6 years of advocacy through HB350
, championed by Rep. Mike Cameron
and Sen. Brian Strickland, and signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp
. Georgia Life Alliance is honored to celebrate this important milestone alongside all those who worked tirelessly for years to make it possible, and we praise God that He continues to bless this work.

Many of us in the pro-life movement view the month of September as synonymous with 40 Days for Life campaigns, and they are officially underway! I was honored to speak at
The Atlanta 40 Days for Life kick-off event
, where we also heard from two mothers who chose life mere moments before their scheduled abortion appointments - as a direct result of faithful 40 Days for Life volunteers who prayed with them outside of the clinic. Hearing these powerful stories, seeing their precious babies, and witnessing so many students, families, pastors, and advocates united for LIFE was such a powerful encouragement.
One prayer, one conversation, one act of kindness, one pregnant mother walking away from her abortion appointment - these are the things that God uses to build a Culture of Life.
And this isn’t work that belongs to politicians or professional activists - it’s something ‘ordinary’ people and families can do together.

NOVEMBER IS COMING.
The November elections are just around the corner - and that means it’s time for pro-life voters to get informed.
Georgia Life Alliance Committee (GLAC) works to help voters understand exactly where candidates stand on protecting life - from its earliest beginning to its natural end.
Our pro-life candidate certification process
is designed to identify candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to protecting babies in the womb, supporting mothers and families facing crisis, defending the aging and the medically vulnerable, and advancing a culture of life.
Don’t wait until Election Day to find out where the candidates stand.
Know the candidates. Know their positions. And make an informed decision at the ballot box. Get your sample ballot here.
Being Certified Pro-Life Means:
- Candidates have been thoroughly vetted on life issues
- They have demonstrated a clear commitment to protecting life
- They can be trusted to stand firm under pressure
These races will shape the future of pro-life policy in Georgia - and informed voters make the difference. Be sure to stay tuned for upcoming certification announcements, candidate interviews, and other election updates on our social media pages
and emails!

LIFE in the News
The fight for Life doesn’t take a break in the headlines. Across the country and around the world, important stories continue to shape the conversation about the dignity and protection of human life.
GLA continues to respond when pro-life issues are misrepresented in the media or when facts are intentionally distorted to undermine the reality of life in the womb. Here are a few of the stories we’ve been tracking:
-
ABORTION PILLS IN OUR WATER?
A peer-reviewed study
published this summer reported measurable anti-progesterone activity in water samples collected in three U.S. cities, including municipal tap-water samples in Austin, Texas, and Carbondale, Illinois. The researchers called for additional investigation into the presence and potential effects of mifepristone and other endocrine-disrupting compounds in water. (Law & Medicine Journal). And now, there’s a new development: in September, the EPA announced
that it will screen drinking-water samples for more than 1,400 potential contaminants - including mifepristone and misoprostol, the two drugs most commonly used in chemical abortion.
-
BABY GABRIEL: WHEN SURROGACY, ABORTION, & MEDICAL ETHICS COLLIDE
. One of the most nuanced and controversial life-and-law stories of the summer is that of Baby Gabriel
. During a routine 20-week anatomy scan, Gabriel was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a serious congenital heart condition which doctors advised would require surgery shortly after his birth. According to court filings, Gabriel’s biological parents instructed McKenna (Gabriel’s surrogate mother) to abort Gabriel shortly after receiving the diagnosis. After canceling two scheduled abortion appointments (one at 23 weeks gestation and the other at 24), McKenna fled from Alaska to Texas where she sought and was granted legal protection for the life of the unborn child in her womb. Gabriel has since been born and while legal proceedings continue; this case raises serious questions and concerns for the pro-life movement.
What happens when a surrogacy contract stands at odds with the medical needs, or the very LIFE, of the child? Who has authority to make medical decisions over the baby’s life and the surrogate mother’s body? What happens when an unexpected prenatal diagnosis changes the intentions of biological parents? These questions expose the very real ethical dilemmas surrounding commercial surrogacy, unchecked advances in reproductive technology, devastating prenatal diagnoses, parental rights, and the value we as a culture place on human life versus someone else’s ‘right’ to become a parent. Whatever your view on surrogacy may be, this story forces us to ask a vital question: when a child’s life becomes medically complicated, does his or her right to live become negotiable?
With the November elections just around the corner, the pro-abortion media is ramping up their efforts to fear-monger, spread misinformation, and attack Georgia’s pro-life protections.

OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH!
Some great ways to observe Respect Life Month
with your whole family:

KEEP YOUR FINGER ON THE PULSE
The work to build a culture of LIFE is happening in communities all across our state.
Pregnancy care centers are serving women. Betsy’s Law homes
are preparing to open their doors to pregnant and new mothers facing homelessness. Churches are mobilizing. Volunteers are praying outside abortion facilities. Families are teaching their children the value of human life. And advocates are preparing for another election and another legislative session.
Your next step in the coming month - pick one thing:
-
Sign up to pray outside of an abortion facility.
-
Reach out to your local pregnancy care center to inquire about their needs.
-
Research and share information about the candidates on your ballot.
-
Start a conversation with someone who needs to hear that choosing life doesn’t mean facing parenthood alone.
No one can do everything.
But everyone can do something.
If you or your organization have an upcoming event, ministry update, or a pro-life perspective to share, submissions
for next month’s edition of The Pulse with GLA
are open through October 25th
. We welcome opportunities to highlight the pro-life work, victories, praise reports, and faithful advocates across our state.
And if you’re looking for a pro-life speaker at your church, pregnancy center banquet, county political group, etc - we would love to come speak or help you find the right person for your group
!
Thank you for standing with Georgia Life Alliance and being part of this work. We cannot do this without your faithful prayers and support. Together, we are making an impact that will last for generations.
Together for Life,
Elizabeth Edmonds
